Roaring Fork Conservancy is excited to partner with the Community Office for Resource Efficiency to promote water efficiency throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. This program is designed to grab attention, inform the public, and empower citizens to take action in and around their homes and communities. Decreasing municipal water use can increase resource efficiency through decreasing water and wastewater-treatment as well as potentially increasing in-stream flows on critical stretches of our local streams and rivers.

Catch Captain Cutthroat
Meet Captain Cutthroat, the ambassador for our Reel in Water Use campaign. He's a native cutthroat looking for some good water cuz Fish Love Water Too. Look for Captain Cutthroat out and about this summer! He will be making appearances at community events including farmer's markets, parades, and music festivals to promote water use awareness. He may even be handing out prizes to help you conserve water in and around your home. Thanks to Captain Cutthroat creative arts director Liz Munn for bringing the Captain to life.

Regional Water Efficiency Planning
In collaboration with the Ruedi Water & Power Authority (RWPA) and Roaring Fork Conservancy, the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) is partnering with municipal water providers throughout the Roaring Fork Valley (City of Aspen, Snowmass Water & Sanitation District, Town of Basalt, Town of Carbondale, and the City of Glenwood Springs) to develop a regional water efficiency plan for the Roaring Fork Watershed. The regional planning effort was conceived while the state was experiencing the severe drought conditions of 2012, one of the worst droughts in Colorado history.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) awarded a Community Outreach Grant for CORE to initiate a valley-wide dialogue and build consensus around regional collaboration on water conservation in January 2013. The participating water providers have agreed to work together jointly committing more than $31,000 in local matching funds, and an equivalent value of in-kind contributions. In November 2013, the CWCB granted $93,537 to fund the Roaring Fork Watershed – Regional Water Efficiency Plan. Total project cost, not including in-kind services, is expected to be $124,717. The Water Efficiency Plan which is to be completed in late 2014 constitutes another step towards implementation of the Roaring Fork Watershed Plan.
